About this site
Time Out in New Zealand (TONZ) is a non-profit people-to-people initiative to help the people of Japan in their time of need, in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster that hit the Tohoku region of Japan on March 11, 2011.
TONZ was foundered by Aucklanders Jon Doherty, Mia Evans, and Tosh Aoshima of Tokyo, whom have deep ties with and a great love for both countries.
There are 43 active Sister City relationships between Japan and New Zealand. Outside of this, there are many other New Zealanders, schools, sports teams, businesses and families who have a strong affiliation with Japan. This initiative aims to reach out to people in NZ that have an affiliation with Japan (past or current) to assist, where they can, in providing some much needed relief to our friends in Japan.
TONZ is now supported by an increasing number of both public and private sector organisations which re-enforces our country’s deep friendship with, and commitment to, the people of Japan.
There are many ongoing challenges facing families and individuals in the Tohoku region of Japan. These challenges did not go away when the media coverage did. Please help spread the word should you know of people or organisations that are in a position to assist.
Thank you.
